Privacy Policy – JSMC App

JSMC App is the official mobile application of the Jain Society of Metropolitan Chicago ("JSMC", "we", "our", or "us").

This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our mobile application.

1. Information We Collect

a) Account Information

When you register, we collect:

  • Mobile phone number (used for OTP authentication)
  • Name
  • Birth Month and Year
  • Gender
  • Optional email address
  • Family relationship details (if added)

b) Device Information

We may collect:

  • Device identifier
  • App version
  • Operating system version
  • Push notification token (Firebase Cloud Messaging)

c) Usage Information

We may collect limited usage and diagnostic data such as:

  • App interactions
  • Crash reports
  • Device performance information

We use Google Firebase services including Analytics, Crashlytics, and Cloud Messaging to collect usage data, crash reports, and diagnostic information to improve app performance and stability.

d) Camera Access

The app may request access to the device camera for administrative features such as QR code scanning for attendance. Camera access is used only for this purpose and images are not stored unless required for the specific feature.

We do not sell your personal data.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use collected information to:

  • Authenticate users via one-time password (OTP)
  • Provide event details and RSVP functionality
  • Pathshala class participation
  • Manage family profiles
  • Send important announcements and notifications
  • Improve app performance and reliability
  • Process donations via secure third-party providers through https://donations.jsmconline.org

We do not use collected information for behavioral advertising or cross-app tracking.

3. Donations and Payments

Donations made through the app may redirect to https://donations.jsmconline.org, which is integrated with Stripe for payment processing.

We do not store or process credit card information within the mobile app.

Stripe's privacy policy governs payment information handling.

4. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services:

  • Firebase (Google) for push notifications, analytics, and crash reporting.
  • Stripe for secure donation processing (external website).
  • Cloud infrastructure hosted on Microsoft Azure.

These providers process data in accordance with their own privacy policies.

We do not use third-party advertising services within the app.

5. Data Retention

We retain personal information only as long as necessary to:

  • Provide services
  • Maintain membership records
  • Comply with legal obligations

Users may request account deletion at any time.

6. Account Deletion

You may request deletion of your account and associated personal information by:

  • Using the account deletion option within the app; or
  • Contacting us at support@jsmconline.org.

Upon verification, your account and related personal data will be removed in accordance with applicable laws.

7. Children's Privacy

Pathshala student information is managed by parents or guardians.

Minors cannot independently create accounts.

We collect limited child information only for educational and community participation purposes.

8. Data Security

We implement industry-standard security practices including encrypted communication and secure authentication to protect user information.

Data is stored and processed in the United States using secure cloud infrastructure.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated effective date.
